Michael Pollan’s: “Don’t Buy Any Food You’ve Ever Seen Advertised”. Democracy Now 5/14/09 1 of 2

Michael Pollan is one of the nations leading writers and thinkers in this country on the issue of food. He is author of several books about food, including The Botany of Desire, The Omnivores Dilemma and his latest, In Defense of Food: An Eaters Manifesto. In light of what he calls the processed food industrys co-option of sustainability and its vast spending on marketing, Pollan advises to be wary of any food thats advertised.

Monocultures threaten our entire food supply and Monsanto is the most dangerous company that ever existed . Pesticide is only necesarry because of our dependance on monocultures . Monsantos genetically engineeredc plants actually produce their own natural poisons . If you see a bug bite a potatoe and then die , don’t eat the potatoes . McDonalds actually got caught selling these poison potatoes to consumers .

  3. zbijesse says:

  4. zbijesse says:

  8. dreamtekeuphoric says:

Bullshit. what about the swineflu of 1976?

  9. 524ej says:

Just because he came from a rich family and went to college is he better than the rest of us ?He eats meat. He likes junk food. He’s says so on earlier videos. The best article he has ever written is My 2 Gardens. The May 13 1991 Forbes article is available on the internet. It talks about the conflict between his maternal grandfather and his father. It involved vegetable gardening and lawns.
He talks about the vegetables he grew and trying to win the approval of both of the families.

I thought nature was a better model for what happens in nature since it accounts for entire eco systems, not gross profits. Monsanto is out of their minds if they expect us to believe that their GMOs are an improvement upon a model that kept humanity fed for thousands of years. We need to get away from monocultures in order to get away from GMOs and tons of pesticides.

  11. DianeDi says:

Imagine, all that land, that space and the feed…. wouldn’t we eliminate these foul diseases they are discussing…. don’t move it south of the border…. just stop it ! Stop animal production, factory farming and meat eating – and guess what, you will get well.. no diabetes, heart disease, strokes or obesity…. try it for ( no animal products ) for two weeks…. you will thank me, but I don”t want thanks… just humans being and feeling well. Don’t support corporations and big business.

  12. italndiva says:

you are scary. I bet you have dead bodies in your yard.

  13. brollyjohn says:

Everyone should kill their own meat. Otherwise, it’s kind of like buying a stolen car radio. There’s always some killing you got to do around the farm.

  14. mrktwn says:

Do some research on the Spanish Influenza. It has been traced to human-swine interaction as well. This is hardly a liberal/conservative issue.

  15. truthsabre7 says:

then you will get very sick.

  16. egnilk66 says:

    Pork tastes GOOD!

  17. egnilk66 says:

You obviously haven’t read Pollan. I suggest you start with Omnivore’s Dilemma.

    Then get on to

I have to admit, Häagen-Dazs “Five” Passionfruit flavor is by far the best ice-cream I have ever EVER tried. My personal rule is that if you are going to eat something “bad” for you, buy the highest quality you can afford, or bake/cook it yourself & share it with others so you don’t over-indulge. I eat “healthy” ~80% of the time and “unhealthy” ~20% of the time. (My version of unhealty food does not include fast food or anything processed. Think more like a plate of eggs benedict).

I work in a very busy, very successful grocery store. We sell lots of foods, some preprocessed, some fresh, all of it wholesome, good tasting and good for you. People use coupons from corporations to try their products. Meats, dairy, produce, cheeses, canned goods, snack foods, I find these kinds of ideology driven, elitist, academic and scaremongering public address tactics despicable. Obviously, food and H1N1 have very little if anything to do with one another.

  20. machngunjoe says:

    “more liberal scare tactics” ????
    ????? lol

well we know where you stand and have discredited yourself completely.

I find it hard to believe that you are smarter then Micheal Pollen

  21. debonairlove says:

I wasn’t aware you had to listen to it.

  22. eb352mm says:

okay bitch you dont have to tell everyfucking station you broadcast on

  23. mdelcamp1 says:

Oh, please. Showing a bunch of pigs in a pen, is misleading. Swine flu has nothing to do with pig farming. It should not even be referred to as “swine flu” but rather, as H1N1 flu virus. If you have issues with pig farming, go discuss that. Addressing our food supply industry as the source of bugaboo infections is just more liberal scare tactics. Essentially, Liberals want to hem in human populations by limiting technologies that sustain Middle Class lifestyles. They do this in USA and Overseas.

  24. truthsabre7 says:

I have not eaten pork in 30 years.
